Dear HDG friend,
I want to introduce you to the first OKLAHOMA INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL, a two week Classical Ballet and Modern Dance Intensive aimed for the 18+ dancer. July 26 - August 9, 2020, at the Quartz Mountain Resort Arts and Conference Center. Lone Wolf, OK.
"After many years of traveling as a professional dancer, choreographer, and teacher, it has been a long-time dream of mine to create an international festival back home. I want dancers to have a dance intensive with exceptional teachers and a global view, right here in Oklahoma. I envision a Festival that will host an environment that encourages the exchange of ideas through immersive training in both ballet and modern dance. The wide range of experience the international faculty brings to the table offers the dancers varied perspectives on the global dance scene."
"We tend to live in an insular environment where we feel like everything happening in dance is all within the United States. Breaking that barrier for the participants to realize that they are part of a global dance community is one of my goals. And what a better place to connect with your inner artist than the beautiful Wichita Mountains of Oklahoma." -Artistic Director Austin Hartel.
Within the festival framework, we are delighted to announce the Brian Brooks Moving Company as the company in residence for the 2020 edition, as well to welcome the SoloCoreografico, a major international dance showcase dedicated to the choreographic composition for the solo dancer, directed by Raffaele Irace.
Our faculty comes from the United States, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Paraguay. To learn more about our international faculty, click here.
Dancers will be able to take up to 4 dance classes per day.
Classes range from ballet, modern, improvisation, partnering, variations & repertory, GAGA, GYROKINESIS®, and Pilates.
Repertory coaching and rehearsals will culminate in the Gala performance at the end of the festival.
As part of OIDF, we are offering an opportunity for emerging choreographers to present group works as part of the OIDF 2020:
Choreography Showcase, where selected choreographers can participate in a mainstage performance and receive feedback from the international panel of festival faculty.
As you can see, this festival has a lot of layers and offers a unique chance for dancers of the OK and the US to grow and expand their horizons.
I hope to make our beautiful state of Oklahoma, the center of the dance community for two weeks every year and, that you will join me in this new endeavor.
